Trade name registration in Qatar takes one MOCI day and costs QR1,000 for 180 days, or nothing extra when the name travels inside your company file. Meem checks availability, reserves the name, and files the registration that follows.
Send the name, the activity, and your filing date. We reply with the route, the fee, and the documents you need.
The Cost
Trade name registration in Qatar costs QR1,000 for a standalone reservation that holds the name for 180 days. A first reservation for three days is free. When the name is chosen inside the comprehensive establishment service that registers the company, no separate reservation fee applies.
The fee buys time, not ownership. The reservation holds the name for the applicant while the commercial registration and the licence are prepared.
Two routes exist, and they cost different amounts. A standalone reservation is its own application with its own fee. The comprehensive establishment service chooses the name inside the company file, and Single Window adds no reservation fee to that route.
Applications run through the MOCIQATAR app, the MOCI website, the Single Window portal, MOCI headquarters and branches, or a Single Window service centre.
The three-day hold is a first-time option. It fits a founder who still has to confirm the activity, a partner, or a document before committing QR1,000.
Fees and processing time: Single Window Reserve Trade Name service page. Three-day free option and document list: Hukoomi Apply for Reserving Trade Name, updated 11 January 2021. Both checked 24 October 2026.
The Decision
Pay for a standalone reservation only when the company file will wait. If the establishment is ready to file, the name can travel inside it and the QR1,000 reservation fee disappears.
1. When will you file the company registration?
2. How long do you need the name held?
No separate reservation fee applies. MOCI processes the reservation inside the establishment, and the published processing time is one day.
The name is secured when the company file is submitted. A paid 180-day reservation only helps if the company file will slip past the filing date.
The first reservation costs nothing for three days. File the company before the three days end, and pay nothing for the name.
The paid reservation holds the name while the company file is prepared, and it allows one extension of another 180 days.
QR1,000 buys 180 days, plus one extension of 180 days. The name is held before the establishment is filed.
The name is chosen inside the comprehensive establishment with no separate reservation fee.
Route rules: Single Window Reserve Trade Name service page, checked 24 October 2026. Amounts shown are reservation-stage fees; commercial registration charges are separate.
The Clock
A Qatar trade name reservation lasts 180 days. Single Window allows one extension of another 180 days, and the first reservation must still have at least 60 days left when the extension is filed.
The 60-day threshold is the part most founders miss. An application filed when only 30 days remain does not meet the requirement, and Single Window closes it.
The 60-day minimum puts the practical deadline at day 120 of the 180-day hold, not day 180. Record the deadline when the reservation is approved, not when the name is about to lapse.
The extension needs no attachments and is filed from the Single Window applications list. It is granted once, so plan the company file around the second 180 days rather than a third hold. Single Window extension rules set the threshold and the one-time limit.
Validity and extension: Single Window Reserve Trade Name and Extension of Reservation of Trade Name pages, checked 24 October 2026. Day 120 is 180 minus the 60-day minimum.
Later Charges
The reservation fee is not the last name fee. Single Window lists extra charges at commercial registration when the name is a trademark or a Latin name.
| Stage | What applies |
|---|---|
| Standalone 180-day reservation | QR1,000 |
| Name chosen inside the company file | No separate reservation fee |
| Trademark name, at CR issuance | Extra QR1,000 |
| Latin name, at CR issuance | Extra QR1,000 |
Single Window's service page lists QR1,000 for a Latin name at CR stage. Its naming article cites QR500 for Arabic written in Latin letters. Confirm the amount in the portal before payment, and ask which rule applies to your name.
A trademark name also needs a franchise or a licence to use the mark. When the mark is not Qatari, the Qatar embassy attests the document before it enters the file.
Reserving the name does not protect the brand. A Qatar trademark registration is a separate right that outlasts the reservation and covers the logo and the mark.
Charges: Single Window Reserve Trade Name service page, checked 24 October 2026. Trademark document: same page.
The Search
Search the MOCI trade name register before paying for a reservation. The search shows registered names, and it is the fastest way to see whether your first choice is already taken.
The register shows what exists. It does not approve your name and it does not test the restricted words, the Arabic transliteration, or the legal-form suffix. MOCI applies the full trade name rules when it reviews the application.
A clean search result is a good sign, not an approval. Keep two alternative names ready so a refusal does not restart the company file from zero.
Search rules: Single Window Trade Name Search page, checked 24 October 2026.
The Documents
MOCI asks for a short document set with a trade name application. The list changes with the length of the reservation and with the kind of name.
The three-day reservation and the 180-day reservation do not ask for the same paperwork. The official letter belongs to the 180-day route, so gather it before you choose that route.
Documents that need embassy attestation take longer than the one-day reservation. Start the attestation before the application, or the name sits approved while the company file waits.
Document list: Hukoomi Apply for Reserving Trade Name, updated 11 January 2021. Trademark document: Single Window Reserve Trade Name service page, checked 24 October 2026.
The Refusal
MOCI refuses a trade name when it breaks a naming rule, not when the application form is wrong. The refusal gives the reason, and the fix is a change to the name or to the activity.
In practice, the names that come back are rarely exotic. They are names that describe the founder's ambition but not the licensed activity, or names that differ from a registered name by a plural or a single letter.
| What MOCI sees | What to file next |
|---|---|
| Same name, or a singular and plural variant, in the same activity | Change the distinguishing word, or license the name under a different activity that allows it. |
| Name does not state the nature of the business | Rebuild the name around the licensed activity, then refile. |
| Restricted word such as Qatar, Qatari, national, or public | Remove the word. It is limited to companies established by the government of Qatar. |
| Numerals or symbols in the name | Write numbers as words and remove the symbols. |
| Foreign letters with no Arabic reading | Add the Arabic form of the name to the application. |
| Registered or famous trademark | Obtain written permission or a licence, or choose another name. |
A refusal does not cancel the activity or the company plan. It cancels the name, and a revised name can be filed without rebuilding the rest of the file.
Rules: Single Window Reserve Trade Name Terms and Regulations, checked 24 October 2026.
The Legal Form
The legal form adds words to the trade name. MOCI will not register a limited liability company name without L.L.C, or a one person company without OPC.
| Legal form | Words that must appear |
|---|---|
| Limited liability company (LLC or WLL) | L.L.C |
| One person company | OPC |
| Holding company | Holding Company |
| Joint liability company | and Partners |
Choose the legal form before the name. The form decides the words that must appear, and the words change the name that goes into the register search.
A name that suits an LLC may not suit an OPC, because the suffix and the ownership story differ. Decide the structure first, then test the name with the suffix attached.
Legal form requirements: Single Window Reserve Trade Name Terms and Regulations, checked 24 October 2026.
The Handoff
Meem runs the name file from the register search to the extension deadline. MOCI approves the name, and Meem prepares and tracks the file that goes to MOCI.
The check covers the register, the naming rules, the activity, and the legal-form suffix. A name that fails the check is revised before any fee is paid.
The file carries the documents, the route, and either the reservation or the bundled establishment. Meem tracks the application and records the extension deadline on the day the reservation is approved.
The name file ends at approval. The commercial registration and the licence that follow are a separate file. Once the company is trading, renewal and ministry follow-up sit with PRO services.
Send the name before you pay the fee
Send the proposed name, the activity, and your filing timeline. Meem replies with the route, the fee that applies, and the documents to prepare.

Three steps, one owner, and a clear answer before you commit a fee.
Meem searches the register for the same and similar names, tests the name against the activity and the legal form, and flags anything MOCI is likely to return.
Meem compares a standalone 180-day reservation with the bundled company file and tells you which one your timeline needs.
Meem submits the reservation or the establishment, tracks the application, and records the day 120 extension deadline.

The register search and the naming rules check happen before you commit QR1,000.
Meem tells you when the bundled company file removes the reservation fee, and when a standalone hold is the right spend.
The 60-day window for a one-time 180-day extension is recorded when the reservation is approved.

Short answers to the questions that decide the name file.
A standalone reservation costs QR1,000 for 180 days. A first reservation for three days is free. When the name is chosen inside the comprehensive establishment that registers the company, Single Window adds no separate reservation fee.
Single Window lists one day to process a reservation. The reservation is not the company. The commercial registration and the licence that follow take longer and depend on the activity and the documents.
Yes. A standalone reservation holds a name for 180 days before any company is registered. You need a copy of your personal identification, and an official letter when you reserve for the full 180 days.
The reservation is valid for 180 days. Single Window allows one additional 180-day extension, which must be filed before the first reservation expires.
The first reservation must still have at least 60 days left when the extension is filed, and the extension is granted only once. In practice, file before day 120 of the 180-day hold.
Yes. MOCI requires the name to state the nature of the business and to match the licensed activity and the legal form. A name that describes a different trade is returned even when the name itself is available.
No, not for a private company. The words Qatar, Qatari, national and public are limited to companies established or incorporated by the government of Qatar.
MOCI returns the application with the reason. The usual causes are a similar registered name, a restricted word, numerals or symbols, or a name that does not match the activity. Meem revises the name and refiles it, or moves to the bundled route if the company file is ready.
Send the proposed name, the activity, and your filing timeline. Meem replies with the route, the fee that applies, and the documents to prepare.
